Scottish Press Should Apologise To Manager

Once again the Scottish Media is trying to stir-up tensions at Tannadice, by condemning Dundee United supporters for calling for Craig Levein`s head at the start of the season.

Dundee United have gone from bottom to 6th in the SPL table, after league wins over Aberdeen, Hearts and a 2-1 victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle on Saturday.

But, even when the club was sitting in the relegation spot in the SPL, I don`t remember Dundee United supporters demanding Levein`s head for the awful start to the season.

Many Arabs were disillusioned at the results, which included defeats by Hamilton, Hibernian and Kilmarnock, but the score lines weren`t always down to poor performances.

I listened to several Dundee United supporters on Jim Traynor`s “Your Call” radio programme, admitting that something had to change, but none of them said it was time for Craig Levein to leave the club.

Yet, after the Caley win, Jim Trayor was calling on Dundee United supporters to come on his programme and justify their lack of support towards Levein only a few weeks ago.

Its not unusual for the press to make things up, this week Newcastle have threatened to sue a newspaper for allegedly inventing a story about the new manager turning up for training on Monday, because no-one told him the players had the day off.

There were no protests from Dundee United supporters, there was absolutely nothing in the story about the fans not backing the manager, but the Scottish Press still printed their fabrications…. it must have been a slow news week!

Everyone at Tannadice was convinced that, given the time, Levein could turn things around and the club back up the league table, where it belongs.

Now, after the latest 2-1 win over Caley, the BBC pundits are giving United fans stick for ever doubting the United manager…. when did that actually happen?

It was the Scottish Press which started to pile the pressure onto Craig Levein and it should be the Scottish Press that apologises for attempting to force him out of a job.

The United supporters have nothing to apologise for, we continue to back the manager, the players and chairman…. on and off the park.

Craig Levein said it himself after the Hearts win last week… ‘The supporters have always been great, they`ve never doubted us. We are United here, simple as that”
