After a weekend of sever flooding all over the UK, there was a more positive sort of Flood at Starks Park on Sunday afternoon.

Midfielder Willo Flood made his Dundee United debut in a 2-2 draw with Raith Rovers after arriving on a 1-year loan from Cardiff City.

After spells with Manchester City, Rochdale (on loan) and Coventry City (on loan), Flood struggled to make an impression on Cardiff City manager David Jones.

The Irish Under-21 International has made only 5 starts for Cardiff since joining in August 2006, including a further 20 appearances from the bench.

The 22-year-old didn`t join-up with the rest of Craig Levein`s squad until 10-days into pre-season training, because he was awaiting the birth of his son Aaron, but his lack of fitness didn`t hold him back in the early stages at Starks Park.

Flood managed to make a dramatic impact in his first start for Dundee United after scoring the opening goal just 3minutes into his debut.

Youngster David Goodwillie progressed down the left wing, before cutting the ball back into the Raith Rovers penalty area.

Raith keeper Keiron Renton failed to hold onto the ball, giving Flood the opportunity to place the ball into the empty net from close range.

Unfortunately Floods opener was cancelled out by goals from Andy Todd and Craig Winter, with only a 2nd half free kick from captain Barry Robson securing a 2-2 draw against Craig Levein`s former side.

“Willo has trained away well and as his fitness levels are improving he`ll definitely play some part on Sunday,” admitted Levein to the Courier before the Raith friendly.
