Dundee United defender Mihael Kovacevic has been forced to have an operation on a troublesome knee injury.
The Switzerland under-21 international suffered damaged ligaments during a summer workout, although it was initially hoped that a period of straight rest would provide the cure.
However, Kovacevic now faces a period of several months on the sidelines after medical staff decided an operation was required.
Meanwhile, the club are to open talks with him over a contract extension in the next few weeks as his current deal expires in January.
