Striker Jon Daly will quite literally be leading from the front next season after being appointed as Dundee United skipper.

The Dublin-born 27-year-old fills the gap caused by the return of on loan Andy Webster to Rangers and the retirement of Lee Wilkie.

“Jon is the outstanding candidate for the captain’s job,” manager Peter Houston told The Courier.

“He is not afraid to speak his mind or to let people know what he thinks and he is respected by everyone at the club.”

Meanwhile, Daly commented: “If the boys want me to talk to the gaffer, then I will be happy to knock on his door for them.

“I will try to be a leader both on and off the park.”
