Daly Is Just What Dundee United Need

Craig Levein has been down to Victoria Park to watch Jon Daly several times this season and according to Hartlepool supporters he’s exactly the type of player Dundee United need upfront.

Jon Daly became Craig Levein’s 2nd January signing on Friday afternoon, after both clubs agreed an undisclosed fee for the player, who turns 24 on Monday.

Both captain Barry Robson and Craig Conway have the ability to send some decent crosses into the box, but United don’t have any real ariel threat upfront, especially with top goal scorer Noel Hunt currently out injured,

However, Pool’s supporters think the 6ft Dublin born attacker is exactly the type of player who will win many headers and use his strength to great effect, getting into dangerous positions inside the opposition penalty area.

“He is a big target man. He will win you plenty of headers and hold play up well bringing other players into the game around him,” said Hartlepool supporter Marc Morgan.

“He scores plenty from set pieces but isn’t a free scoring striker. He will get around 10 goals a season but he will create chances and cause problems for opposition defenders.”

“He scored the most famous goal at the Millennium stadium for this club and he will always be remembered for that.”

Dundee United midfielder Barry Robson is the club’s freekick expert and has scored 7 himself, as well as setting up many more from set-pieces, so Jon Daly will definitely have a few opportunities to get on the score sheet from set-pieces.

“He’s big and cumbersome. His strength is holding the ball up and linking play rather than scoring the goals himself,” said Yloop, another Hartlepool supporter.

Whilst, SirRichard thinks that Daly could become a great asset to Dundee United, if he’s given a chance to establish himself in the 1st team.

“Give Daly time and he will do wonders for your team. He hasn’t really had a good run in the Hartlepool team,” said SirRichard.

“Hartlepool loaned him out at the back end of the season, and did rather well because he was playing week in and week out. I am sad he has left because he wins plenty of free-kicks around the box. He will do well for you.”

With the Saint Mirren Scottish Cup match postponed due to flu, Dundee United’s next game will be against manager-less Rangers at Ibrox in the SPL.

Dundee United have quite a good record over Rangers in recent seasons, with 3 wins, 5 draw and just 2 defeats in their last 10 SPL matches against the Gers.
