Lee Wilkie’s loan deal is going so well, that Ross County manager Scott Leitch is hoping to keep him at Dingwall until the end of the season.

The Dundee United defender joined the 1st division side on a 1-month loan deal, after United manager Craig Levein insisted he gained some more competitive match experience in his recovery from a serious knee injury.

Wilkie has played in Ross County’s last 4 league matches, but was unable to take part in their 1-0 Scottish Cup defeat to Partick Thistle this weekend, because Craig Levein didn’t want him cup tied – just incase United need him later in the competition.

Ross County are currently struggling at the wrong end of the division 1 table, just 5 points above bottom side Queen of the South who they beat 1-0 at Dingwall in their final match of 2006.

According to County manager Scott Leitch, Lee Wilkie was an important factor in their 1-0 win over Queens and their 1-0 win over Airdrie United on Boxing day.

“We have to look at the possibility of keeping Lee here after his loan period but that will be up to manager Craig Levein,” said Leitch after the 1-0 victory over Ian McCall’s side.

“Lee is a quality player and has done so well coming back from a serious injury. He was immense in this win and also the win over Airdrie.”
