Defender Lee Wilkie has announced he is ready to help SPL basement club Dundee United climb up the league.

Wilkie, 26, joined the Arabs after impressive on trial, after being released by city rivals Dundee. He is attempting to restart his career after a series of cruciate ligament problems.

Since signing a pay-as-you-play deal, Wilkie has featured in a number of reserve matches to ensure his knee is capable of withstanding the rigours of first-team football.

Dons boss Craig Brewster seems keen to avoid rushing Wilkie into the first-team, but the Terrors have looked weak at the back and the Scotland international could be the answer to the problems – especially the apparent lack of leadership in the defence.

Speaking to the Daily Record, Wilkie said: ‘The manager said when I signed my deal last week that I might need another couple of reserve games. In that case, I’ll leave the decision to him but I’m feeling good at this moment in time.

‘If I’m asked to play, then great. I would be ready and raring to go for the sake of the team. I’ve been working really hard with everything designed towards playing again.’

The Arabs travel to Pittodrie to face Aberdeen on Saturday (Oct 21) and Brewster will have to decide whether to stick with the side who lost 4-1 against Celtic at the weekend or ring the changes.
