Dundee United were hoping for positive news regarding full-back Paul Dixon.

The 29-year-old defender limped out of the weekend League Cup victory at Inverness Caledonian Thistle amid fears of possible ligament damage.

However, manager Ray McKinnon was hoping the problem isn’t that serious with the start of the new league campaign just over a week away.

“We took him off as a precaution because of the way he landed,” he told the Dundee Evening Telegraph. “He might have tweaked a ligament but we’re hoping it’s nothing too serious.

“Dicker [Dixon] and Lewis Toshney have done very well in our games so far and the way we play our full-backs are very important to us. We’d like to keep them fit.”
