New goalkeeper Cammy Bell wants Dundee United to show the Premiership quality he believes they genuinely possess.

That follows them emerging with a penalty shoot-out triumph against group favourites Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the League Cup at the weekend – Bell eventually proving the difference with a couple of crucial saves from the spot.

“I feel we have a Premiership squad, to be honest. I wouldn’t doubt that,” he told the Dundee Courier. “I think we have Premiership quality players but you can’t just think that – you need to produce it on the pitch.

“So we need to prepare for the league campaign and that means we are also taking the cup very seriously and playing our strongest teams,” Bell added. “We are using this as a tool to help us be ready for the Championship because we know how tough a division that will be.”
