Dundee United manager Craig Levein appears more confident about securing the services of Polish keeper Grzegorz Szamotulski on a long-term deal, with only a week of his loan deal remaining.

Last month it looked certain that the Sturm Graz keeper would move on from Tannadice after his loan deal expired at the end of December, but Levein hasn`t given up all hope of convincing the talented Pole to remain at the club.

1st choice keeper Lukasz Zaluska is out for at least another 5 weeks, after suffering a re-occurance of the injury that has prevented him from making his competitive debut for the club, since signing in the summer.

Zaluska broke a bone in his foot during a pre-season friendly and looked set for a comeback last month, until suffering another setback during a light training session.

Craig Levein has young keeper Euan McLean as back-up, but after gifting Gretna an opening goal last weekend, it`s likely that Levein will look for someone to take his place between the sticks.

‘We are in discussions with Szamotulski just now about whether he will stay on a little bit longer, because we are in the position where Lukasz isn’t going to be fit for another four to six weeks,” admitted Levein to the BBC.
