Substitute Johan Voskamp scored within a couple of minutes of his introduction, but Dundee United achieved the requirement of manager Peter Houston and left Poland with their Europa League tie still wide open after a slender 1-0 defeat.

Former Sparta Rotterdam striker Voskamp swept home with fifteen minutes remaining after Johnny Russell and David Goodwillie had earlier spurned decent opportunities for the visitors.

Russell actually rounded keeper Marian Kelemen early on but slid his effort wide of the post from close to the penalty spot.

Marek Gancarczyk crashed a shot over in reply before Kelemen stuck out a desperate hand to deny Goodwillie on the break as the Taysiders once more threatened.

But that was matched when United keeper Dusan Pernis made a great save to keep out Argentinian forward Diaz and then the Slovakian thwarted Spahic’s header early in the second period.

Rok Elsner also directed an effort over as the hosts continued to search for a way through, which finally came courtesy of Voskamp from fifteen-yards before Scott Severin appeared to unfortunately pull a hamstring for the visitors late on.
