David Proctor has become the 3rd victim of Craig Levein’s pre-summer clearout, just 5 months after Dundee United paid £35,000 to sign the defender from Inverness Caley Thistle.

Defenders David McCracken & Alan Archibald have already been told they are free to find new clubs – as manager Levein attempts to free up funds to bring in several new faces before the January transfer window closes next mid-week.

Signed by former manager Craig Brewster in August, Proctor has played in just 12 of United’s 25 SPL matches so far this season – but has only been picked by Craig Levein twice since his arrival at the start of November.

Proctor was part of the United squad which drew 2-2 at Parkhead on Boxing Day, coming on as a sub for Lee Mair in the 25th minute.

He was also a member of the side which was crushed 5-1 by Falkirk at Tannadice the following week, again coming on as a substitute for Lee Mair in the 71st minute.

McCracken & Archibald are out of contract in the summer and have been told their deals at Tannadice wont be extended, but Proctor is still under contract for another 2-and-a-half years – so Dundee United are keen to get at least some of their investment back, by selling the player on.

“David’s not quite in a similar situation to Archibald and McCracken because he has longer to go on his contract,” said Levein.

“I’ve had a chat with him and his agent and said if he can find anything that’s suitable then we’d be quite willing to discuss it.”

“He’s not really featured and, with Keith Watson breaking through and the signing of Sean Dillon, I see him being surplus to requirements.”
