Former Dundee United striker Mixu Paatelainen is set to be unveiled as the new manager of Kilmarnock on Thursday afternoon.

The Helsinki-born ex-Finland international has been absent from the game for more than twelve months since leaving his last post at Hibernian.

The 43-year-old also numbered St Mirren, St Johnstone, Hibernian, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Bolton Wanderers and Aberdeen amongst his clubs during almost two decades playing.

Kilmarnock have been managerless for the past two months after Jimmy Calderwood chose not to return following his appointment on a short-term deal after the departure of Jim Jefferies at the turn of the year.

Former German World Cup winner Thomas Haessler, ex-St Mirren boss Gus MacPherson, Alex Rae, Lawrie McKinna, John Robertson and Csaba Laszlo had also been linked with the post.
