Dundee United boss Peter Houston is delighted to have appointed striker Jon Daly as his new club captain.

Daly has taken over the armband from Andy Webster following his return to Glasgow Rangers and the Arabs chief couldn’t be happier.

However, Houston has stressed that his new leader will still have to earn his place in the starting line-up – just like everybody else.

“I`m delighted to have someone like Jon to make club captain, because he is a big honest boy and I know what he wants is the best for the club,” Houston told the Evening Telegraph.

“He`s a great type, who has the respect of everyone at United and is someone who is not afraid to speak his mind when he feels he should.

“I have a fantastic relationship with him, so it was not a difficult choice for me, but he still has a fight to hold down his place in the team,” he added.

“He is club captain, that won`t change, but who`s in the team will always be determined by how well they are doing.”
