Media Stir-Up Trouble Ahead Of Celtic Match

The Scottish media loves to stir-up trouble for Dundee United before they are set to take on the Old Firm and this weekend was no exception.

The morning ahead of Dundee United`s 2-2 draw at Parkhead, the newspapers were full of speculation that captain Lee Wilkie was on his way out of Tannadice at the end of the season.

The former Scotland International has been an important part of United`s revival under Craig Levein, since coming back from an almost career-ending knee injury when former manager Craig Brewster gave him a chance to re-build his career at Tannadice.

Celtic midfielder Barry Robson was singing his praises before the 2-2 draw against Dundee United at the weekend, claiming it wouldn`t be a surprise if the big defender moved on to a bigger club.

“Big Lee has been a great captain for United. I think he has another move in him because he’s a good player,” claimed Barry Robson to the Daily Record.

“He has proved to people after his knee injury that he’s back and ready to go. He’s a top defender and a nice guy as well. He is a winner and works hard at his game.”

“It would be great for Dundee United if he stayed but I wouldn’t be surprised if someone did come in for him.”

“Everyone wants to better themselves and go to a higher standard. There is no point in being contented and not wanting to move to the highest level you can.”

However, Craig Levein has admitted he is determined to keep his club captain and wont let him leave without a fight.

Wilkie is one of several players out of contract at the end of the campaign, but after sorting out his own 3-year extension, Levein has now turn his attentions to getting them all re-signed.

“Of course I want all players to stay, but I’m not stupid enough to think they will,” admitted Levein at the weekend.

“If Lee has decided his future is elsewhere then he hasn’t indicated that to me and I certainly know nothing about interest from any other teams.”
