Levein Hunts For New Goalkeeper

Dundee United manager Craig Levein has admitted he has a goalkeeping crisis at Tannadice, because he`s desperately trying to get cover for the injured Lucasz Zaluska.

The Polish keeper broke a bone in his foot in a 3-0 friendly win over Airdrie last Thursday night, leaving Levein with only the inexperienced Euan McLean as cover.

McLean only played one 1st team match for Dundee United last season, starting in the humiliating 5-1 New Years day defeat by Falkirk, which was the beginning of the end for many players in that side.

The Scotland youth international goalkeeper played in the 2-2 draw with Raith Rovers at Starks Park on Sunday, but looked very unconvincing between the sticks for United.

Perhaps it was his lack of 1st team football, but against Raith Rovers he appeared hesitant, nervous and didn`t inspire any confidence in his defensive back-line.

At one stage McLean rushed off his line, shouting on Darren Dods to leave the ball, but then hesitated and ran back to his goal line, leaving defender Dods to sprint back and clear the danger.

“We’re going to need another goalie so I’m working on that just now,” admitted Levein to the Herald.

“It’s a difficult one because if we bring someone in on loan it will be for six months and that will leave me with three keepers when Lucasz comes back, but the situation means we’ve no other option.”
