Levein Hunts For Another New Striker

Dundee United manager Craig Levein is hoping to sign another striker over the next few weeks, to give his side more of a physical presence in attack.

Leicester youngster Eric Odhiambo recently joined Dundee United on loan until the end of the season, but Levein is still searching for a target-man, who can play the lone role upfront.

Striker Jon Daly would be ideal, but he`s been out injured for most of the season and Levein is clearly not willing to risk the rest of United`s campaign of Daly`s fitness.

Levein has been experimenting with defender Lee Wilkie upfront in a handful of matches this season, but even Wilkie`s aerial ability doesn`t make up for the fact that he`s not a proven goal scorer.

“I am still looking for a big striker to take the weight off us a little bit,” Levein admitted earlier this week.

“When Jon Daly is out of the team, as he has been most of the season, we lack a physical presence up front to be able to retain possession. That was part of our problem against Motherwell last weekend, though there were dozens more.”

“Even though Lee Wilkie isn`t a striker and looks a fish out of water in that role, after putting him up front at Fir Park we scored three goals which shows how important having someone of that type is.”

“Players like that are hard to get. During the last transfer window I had six failed attempts to land strikers which illustrates the difficulty, but I`ll be doing my best again.”
