Dundee United manager Craig Levein is determined to sign another striker before the start of the new season.
Levein has already been linked with Lee Hughes (Oldham Athletic), Andy Gow (Rangers), Liam Buchanan (Partick Thistle), Pat McCourt (just signed for Celtic) and a move to sign Roy O’Donovan (Sunderland) on loan.
However, even after securing the services of 19-year-old German frontman Andis Shala last week, Dundee United are down to the bare bones in the attacking department.
Top goalscorer Noel Hunt expected to sign for Reading at the start of next month and Mark De Vries`s short-term deal expired at the end of the season.
Jon Daly has yet to make an impact and young striker David Goodwilie is out of favour with manager Craig Levein, spending most of last season in the lower Scottish leagues on loan.
“I want two strikers. It was the same last year but I hope I’m a bit luckier this time,” admitted Levein to the Daily Record.
“It was frustrating last summer when we targeted so many players only to miss out on them, but we’ll keep plugging away in the hope of bringing the right quality to the club.”
“Last year I went for Chris Porter who did a great job at Motherwell, Jason Scotland who was top scorer at Swansea, a lad Joe Garner who ended up at Carlisle and scored goals and Pat McCourt who has just joined Celtic but we missed out on them all.”
