Burnley have confirmed the shock signing of former Dundee United defender Christian Kalvenes.

The Norwegian left-back quit Tannadice at the end of last season, claiming he was returning to his native country for family reasons.

Kalvenes` contract with Dundee United expired and manager Craig Levein was determined to keep the 31-year-old at the club, but the player wanted to move back to Norway instead.

However, Levein isn`t disappointed in the turn-around and thinks that Burnely boss Owen Coyle has made himself a great signing in Kalvenes.

“I`m absolutely delighted to get Christian because I thought he was the best left-back in Scotland last season,” Levein told the Dundee Courier,

“With every passing month, he progressed and I think we`ve signed someone who will be a huge success for Burnley.”

Kalvenes has signed a 2-year deal to play for the English Championship side.
