It’s all Greek for Kafes

AEK Athens’ Pantelis Kafes reckons that his side will be much too good for Dundee United in their Europa League qualifier.

The Greek international is said to be thrilled at news of the draw which paired the two clubs at Tannadice on 19th August before the return leg seven days later.

However, he would appear to be basing most of his evidence on the fact that Athens recently defeated Rangers in a pre-season friendly.

“This is a team from Scotland and we know they will be based on strength and speed,” commented Kafes, reports the Daily Record.

“But we recently faced the champions of their country and that match went very well. If we are to use the pictures painted by friendly matches so far, then we should get the qualification.”

And just for good measure the 32-year-old believes that the Arabs are further disadvantaged by playing the first leg at home.

“In the many years I have been playing, I’ve seen the stress on the hosting side in the first leg,” he added. “United must get a positive result and I think this will be good for us.”
