Dundee United’s players were back in action this morning with manager Peter Houston warning there is plenty of hard graft ahead for the Scottish Cup winners.

But there was an early casualty after young striker Johnny Russell hurt his ankle ligaments during a game of head tennis and could now be ruled out for up to six weeks.

The Arabs boss had the squad in early for personal weight checks before they were soon heading for their training base in St Andrews.

“The pre-season work has served us very well in the past, so there is no way I`m about to make any big changes to it,” Houston told the Evening Telegraph.

“We`ve benefited from being very fit, the boys know that and they know what to expect ? starting today.”

As expected Slovakian goalkeeper Dusan Pernis and injured defender Mihael Kovacevic were both missing as the squad reassembled.
