Dundee United defender Sean Dillon has pledged that the players will be giving their all to live up to what are sure to be very high expectations this season.

Following the glories of their recent Scottish Cup final triumph, in addition to third place in the table last term, the Arabs report back to duty for training tomorrow with Dillon knowing that much as they might not want to, he and his colleagues must push those wonderful memories right to the back of their minds.

“When you meet people in the street, they are still speaking about last season,” he told the Evening Telegraph “That`s understandable, it`s the way it should be and it`s not going to change for quite a while.

“For us, though, it has to become just a happy memory because we have to focus on moving forward and trying to do even better.”

Manager Peter Houston has already expressed his views on the difficulty clubs have often found matching a third place finish in the league over the course of the following season.

And Dillon is well aware of just how testing it will be for the Tangerines to actually improve on their magnificent efforts last time around.

“You are talking about finishing second in the league and winning another cup for it to go down as better than last season, and we know that`s not going to be easy,” he conceded.

“There`ll also be a great expectation from the fans, which there should be, and, while I`m not saying teams were not already trying hard to beat us before, they`ll really want to put one over on us because beating United will go down as a very good result.”
