Its not often that football supporters agree with a referee, but last week Dundee United supporters found themselves agreeing with referee Kenny Clark`s view of the penalty claim against Celtic.
In a poll on ArabFC.net, an amazing 85% of voters thought that it was a stonewall penalty for Dundee United, after Roy O`Donovan had been brought down by Gary Caldwell at the edge of the 6-yard box.
It should have been a spot-kick to United, but referee Charlie Richmond shockingly waved away the claims, allowing Celtic defender Gary Caldwell to also escaped a possible red card, because he`d already been booked earlier in the game.
However, Clark thinks the bizarre decision was more down to the way that O`Donovan fell, rather than an Old Firm conspiracy among Scottish referees.
“Charlie turned down what was a clear penalty after Gary Caldwell tripped Roy O`Donovan in the box,” admitted Kenny Clark to the Daily Record.
“I can only assume Charlie was put off by the theatrical way O’Donovan went down. The Irishman over-egged the pudding.”
“If he`d fallen normally there`s every chance he`d have got the penalty but sometimes in thinking they`ll convince the official players end up overdoing it.”
“I suspect that’s what’s happened here but at the end of the day it’s an error of judgement from Charlie. Simple as that.”
There was no indecision in the ArabFC.net poll over the incident, as only a handful of suspect Celtic supporters tried to skew the results.
85% of voters were clearly aggrieved at Richmond`s biased decision, with only 15% saying it shouldn`t have been a penalty…probably Celtic fans!

The penalty claim was no different than tha one Naka got booked for last season.Referees are pretty much incompitent in Scotland.They want a decent wage they tell us, well all we want is decent referees
