Rock bottom after twelve games

Dundee United are bottom of the SPL after the first twelve games of the season, and it’s this bad form which has seen Craig Brewster axed and replaced by Craig Levein.

One victory and three draws is simply not good enough. Craig Levein is now here to try and turn things around.

The season started with a home defeat to Falkirk. The Bairns won 2-1 but this is the kind of game that United should be winning, a home game against a team who were only promoted last season.

Next up was a trip to Glasgow to face Rangers and it was all going so well when United found themselves two goals up, but Rangers staged a comeback and the game ended 2-2.

The next two games didn’t produce any goals as United drew 0-0 with Kilmarnock then Dunfermline.

The week after the Dunfermline game, United finally got their first win under the belt and it was perhaps a bit of a surprise that they beat in form St.Mirren by three goals to one at their own stadium, it was a welcome surprise though.

Unfortunately though, that has proved to be the only victory so far. Hibernian beat the Arabs comfortably 3-0 at Tannadice in the following game, live on Setanta Sports.

The next two games ended in draws, firstly another 0-0 draw, this time in Inverness and then a 1-1 draw at home against Motherwell who are also struggling.

Since then, United have lost four in a row, letting in a total of SIXTEEN goals in the process and scoring only three. Hearts took four from United at Tynecastle with no reply, Celtic won 4-1 at Tannadice, while Aberdeen scored three at Pittodrie. The United goal in that game was just a consolation.

A dreadful 5-1 defeat to Falkirk in the next game was the final straw and Eddie Thompson finally lost patience by sacking manager Craig Brewster.

Thompson moved quickly to get in his replacement and unveiled Craig Levein as his replacement on Monday of this week.

Levein now has the task of picking up the morale of the team ahead of Sunday’s game at Tannadice against Rangers.

No CIS cup run for Arabs

Dundee United got their CIS Insurance League Cup campaign off to a winning start against First Division Airdrie United. However they had to go to extra time to break the deadlock.

The cup run didn’t last very long however and in the next round, St Johnstone, also of the First Division easily beat their SPL rivals by three goals to nil.
