Dundee United have a strong enough squad to finish 3rd – according to former Dundee, Hibs and Falkirk manager Jim Duffy.
Motherwell, Hibernian and Dundee United are currently locked in a battle for 3rd top spot and the UEFA Cup place which comes with it.
However, Motherwell appear favourites to secure the prize, as they sit top of the heap at the moment, a point above United, 2 points above the Easter Road Club and with 2 games in hand over both their rivals.
“If you ask me who I think will finish third, then I would have to say Dundee United as I feel they have the strongest squad,” admitted Duffy to The Herald this week.
“Craig Levein has done a remarkable job and they are building a very good squad, one I feel will contest third spot over the next few years.”
“Celtic have to go to Tannadice on the final day of the season and, if it goes all the way, I for one would not put it past United to get the result they need.”
“Looking at the squads of United, Hibernian and Motherwell, I would say United have the strongest squad, physically and also in terms of the options available to Craig.
I think United might just nick it in the fight for third.”
Although, Duffy admitted that Dundee United aren`t the club he wants to finish 3rd, instead he supports Mark McGhee`s side.
“If you ask me, though, who I want to get third then I would say Motherwell and I think a lot of neutrals would agree.”
“They have suffered terribly through the loss of Phil O’Donnell and have tried throughout the season to play attacking, passing football, even on a bumpy pitch.”
