Even the Dundee United players thought they’d blown their chances of beating Motherwell last weekend.

Manager Craig Levein revealed after the game that he thought it was unlikely his team would leave Fir Park with 3 points, following Motherwell’s 2nd half dominance over 10-man United.

However, even midfielder Craig Conway thought the worst after Mark Reynold’s 68th minute equaliser for Maurice Malpas’s side.

“When they scored the first goal and then got the second I thought, Oh no here we go,” said Conway.

“We were always going to be up against it if they got back in the game, having been reduced to 10 men for so long. The fact that we came back to win, though, is brilliant and it’s a cracking result in the circumstances.”

It was Conway`s challenge on Darren Smith in the 62nd minute that gave Ritchie Foran the chance to pull one back for Motherwell from the penalty spot. Although, nobody blames Conway for conceding the penalty, since he was directly involved in United going 2-0 ahead in the first half.

It was Conway’s cross that gave Collin Samuel the chance to open the scoring in the 29th minute and then in the 44th minute it was corner from the youngster that lead to David McCracken’s headed goal.

“I feared the worst when they got the penalty and I should maybe just stay away from our box, although tracking back is part of my job,” he said.

“I just thought it was a shoulder to shoulder thing and then we both ended up on the ground. I thought he was going to shoot and that’s why I dived in to tackle but perhaps I should have just stayed on my feet.”

Craig Levein praised Conway for his involvement in both goals, but joked that he wishes he`d been a little lazier in the 2nd half and not tracked back to challenge Darren Smith.

“It was good work by young Craig Conway on the left hand side and his crossing with both feet is excellent,” said Levein.
