Barry Robson Is United’s Best Player

Barry Robson is clearly Dundee United’s best player, Craig Levein even admitted as much before of Tuesday nights Scottish Cup 3-2 win over Saint Mirren.

When Robson went off injured in the 60th minute of that match, Dundee United didn’t look anyway near as dangerous without their captain on the field.

The 28-year-old midfielder was callously brought down by Saint’s Andy Millen in the 51st minute, but never fully recovered from a thigh knock and had to be replacement by Stuart Duff less than 10minutes later.

However, Dundee United will still be without Robson for the trip to Kilmarnock this weekend – whether he has fully recovered from his knock or not – since he is still suspended from the next 2 SPL matches.

Robson was awarded a 3 match suspension after the New Year, for picking up too many disciplinary points earlier in the campaign, with 4 yellow cards and 1 red card to his name already this season.

He had to sit out the 5-0 Rangers defeat last weekend and will also miss the Kilmarnock(a) and Dunfermline(h) matches, before ironically returning to SPL action in the match against St Mirren at Love Street on the 10th of February.

“We missed Barry’s strength and leadership when he went off,” said Levein after the Saint Mirren Cup win.

“Up until then I felt confident, but without him we went on the back foot and St Mirren got their tails up.”

When Robson left the field, he had a few choice words for Saint Mirren’s Andy Millen who had been subbed off a few minutes earlier.

Levein continued, “I can understand why he was not pleased. He has a bad graze that was caused by studs right at the top of the groin area and it must have been a very big ball for anyone to have to put in a tackle on him that high.”
