Dundee United captain Lee Wilkie has a few words of advice for the 2 new signings, who joined the club from local rivals Dundee.
The 28-year-old defender spent 8-years of his footballing career at Dens Park between 1998 and 2006, before joining Dundee United from Ross County in October 2006.
Now, midfielder Scott Robertson and defender Paul Dixon have followed Wilkie across Tannadice Street.
“It`s strange when you come from Dundee straight to United because this is a small town and the fact the stadiums are so close together makes it unique,” admitted Wilkie to the Dundee Courier.
“I`d say 95% of the banter they`ll get is light-hearted and what I`ve found is the best way to deal with it is to be the same back and have a laugh.”
“You get it when you`re out and about but if you take it in your stride it`s not a problem, but it`s more accepted these days, right throughout football, than it used to be.”
“It hurts supporters to see players leave to join their rivals, but it`s part of the game and after a while they get over it – although I`m still waiting for that to happen.”
Although, Wilkie is certain that Robertson and Dixon both have what it takes to be a success in the SPL with Dundee United.
“They are good young players and I know them from their days at Dundee,” continued Wilkie.
“They were breaking into the team just around the time I was leaving and have shown across the road that they have a lot of quality.”
