Mixu Paatelainen believes Dundee United are making progress despite being unable to defeat ten-man Kilmarnock yesterday.

Billy McKay scored from the penalty spot – his seventh goal of the season – after Killie’s Stuart Findlay was dismissed, to cancel out Kris Boyd’s early opener in a 1-1 draw at Rugby Park.

“We had clear cut chances like last week so that’s a positive,” Paatelainen told BBC Scotland. “That means that our passing is at a standard that allows us to get those goal-scoring opportunities. We just simply need to take them.

“We’re getting there, we’re working hard and our general play is not too bad,” he added. “The goal we conceded was so, so sloppy and so stupid. It was a fantastic ball into the box but we should defend that situation better.”
