Serious blow for defender

Gregory Vignal’s chances of a permanent deal with Dundee United have received another injury blow.

The 31-year-old former Rangers and Liverpool defender suffered a hamstring injury during the midweek Under-20 game with Hamilton Academical.

Vignal only joined United in September on a deal running through to January. Both parties would then have the option of extending it should they agree.

But his latest setback is likely to keep him sidelined for around a fortnight and would appear to seriously affect his chances of staying on.

“We will see how it goes and he has been trying hard, but it’s now difficult for me to extend his contract. It is unfortunate,” manager Peter Houston told the Dundee Courier. “We are assessing the injury just now and that could take up to two days to discover how long he is going to be out for.”
