Many United supporters expected Craig Levein to lead the club to the later stages of the competition, with almost half hopeful of seeing Dundee United lift the Scottish Cup this season.
However, there is no chance of that happening now after a solitary 16th minute strike from Russell Duncan gave Caley Thistle a chance to progress into the quarter-finals, after a pathetic performance from the men in Tangerine.
Dundee United reached their 8th Hampden final just 2 years ago, but lost 1-0 to Celtic after an early Alan Thompson free-kick squirmed past goalkeeper Tony Bullock in the 11th minute.
In 1994, a Craig Brewster close-range strike gave Arabs the chance to see Ivan Golac bring the trophy back to Dundee, after a 1-0 win over Rangers which denied the Glasgow side the chance to secure the treble for the 2nd consecutive season.
In a poll on ArabFC.net, Dundee United supporters were asked to predict how far the club would get in the Scottish Cup this season, with the majority expecting to see United in the quarter final draw.
Just 24% of voters gave Caley Thistle any chance of beating Craig Levein’s side at the Caledonian Stadium this weekend, with 53% of Arabs hoping to travel to Hampden for the final in May.
4% thought Dundee United to go out of the competition in the quarter-finals, 19% in the semis, but most fully expected that if the club managed to get to the final, then the trophy was coming back to Tannadice once again.
However, none of that matters now, after the 1-0 defeat and an awful performance brought an end to Dundee United’s Scottish Cup run and any chance of getting into Europe next season.
The best United supporters can hope for now is a top-6 place in the SPL, but given recent results – even that is way beyond us!!!
