Now Levein Targets Top Six Place

Dundee United manager Craig Levein believes his side are capable of making the top 6 this season, despite ruling it out just a few months ago.

Levein is still unhappy with the inconsistency shown by his players over the last few weeks alone, but with United only 5 points behind 6th placed Kilmarnock a top 6 place is still very possible.

After a 1-0 win over Saint Mirren at Love Street last weekend, another victory over Hibernian on Sunday would be a major boost towards a top table place before the split.

“Getting to the top six will be very difficult, especially when you consider the games we face, but we’ve got to have ambition,” admitted Levein.

“Last week’s win gave us a bit of breathing space and I don’t think relegation is an issue for us any more so we can look up towards the teams above us now.”

“We’ve got a tough game against Hibs on Sunday but if we get a good result in that who knows what can happen.”

“We played very well against them down there the last time and with a bit better finishing could have won the game. “

“I’ve spoken to the players about that and they’ve taken it on board so hopefully we’ll see another good performance.”

Even if Dundee United can`t make it into a lucrative top 6 place, there is still £60,000 on offer for every position in the SPL table – so even going from 9th to 8th in the SPL could be financially rewarding for United.

“The money on offer from jumping even one place is significant so it’s in everyone’s interests to finish as high as we can,” continued Levein.”

“Getting up a place or two might mean we’re able to pay the wages of an extra couple of players in the summer.”
