Lee Wilkie`s loan deal is likely to be finalised this afternoon, giving the defender the chance to gain some further match fitness during a short spell with division 1 side Livingston.

The relegated SPL side have offered to take the 26 year old defender on loan for a few months, to give him the chance of some regular 1st team football, which Craig Levein was wary of giving him at Tannadice until he’s back to full fitness.

The news comes just days after the former Dundee defender had an excellent match against Kilmarnock at Tannadice, scoring one goal and unlucky not to score more.

Wilkie grabbed a 34th minute opener for United in the reserve match earlier this week, and was only prevented getting a 2nd by a defenders arm and then a great save by the keeper in the closing stages of the game – with United eventually winning the match 2-0.

‘He needs to find some middle ground between reserve football and the first team in the SPL and it could do him a power of good to get competitive matches,’ Levein said a few weeks ago.

So, Livingston much be the place where Levein thinks he can find that middle ground???
