New signing Barry Douglas admitted that he couldn’t sleep such was the excitement of joining Dundee United.

Douglas is confident that his move from Queen’s Park to the Scottish Cup winners this week will help him develop further as a player – not that he was doing bad anyway as the Arabs were closely rivalled for his services by Watford.

“I’m really excited and haven’t slept for the past couple of nights. United tick all the boxes,” he told BBC Scotland. “I was playing well last year and Dundee United expressed an interest.

“I spoke to them and came up to see the place,” the 20-year-old continued. “I was really impressed and the new gaffer Peter Houston really sold the club to me.”

Douglas has signed a three-year deal at Tannadice after netting eleven times in 76 appearances at Queen’s Park.

“At this moment in time, I feel my development is the biggest aspect in my game,” he added. “Dundee United tick all the right boxes: they’re Scottish Cup winners, playing in Europe next year, what more could you want?

“First and foremost, I need to break into the first-team and then we’ll see what happens.”
