Houston content with squad

Dundee United chief Peter Houston wasn’t expecting a great deal of transfer activity at Tannadice over the next month.

Houston still believes that his current squad are capable of challenging towards the top end of the table come the end of the season, although several of his players have previously been linked with moves away from the club.

“There hasn’t been any bids or any chat with regards to teams wanting any of our players,” he told BBC Scotland. “If it stays that way I’ll be delighted, I always worry with anyone going out because there’s always speculation with regards to United players.

“They should take that as a compliment. You look at the summer – we had Goodwillie going, Kenneth going, Conway going, loads of players going and nothing happened. This time it’s Goodwillie again, Pernis the goalkeeper.

“I don’t think I’ll be able to bring in if that’s the case, but if somebody goes then it might release some money,” Houston added. “I would rather keep the squad I’ve got. If we can keep our squad of players we shouldn’t be too far away from finishing high up the league.”
