There have been positives and negatives to come out of Dundee United`s recent matches against bottom-of-the-table sides Dunfermline and Saint Mirren…although mainly negatives.

Being beaten 1-0 by Dunfermline and 2-0 by Saint Mirren was bad enough, but additional injuries and suspensions have made those results even worse.

Noel Hunt saw red against Saints and will be suspended against Falkirk, Lee Wilkie limped off with bruising on his big toe and Jon Daly has been ruled out for 6months after picking up a knee injury against Caley Thistle.

However, there was something positive to come out of recent weeks, with Craig Conway making his shock return to Craig Levein`s 1st team squad.

Midfielder Conway made his comeback against Inverness Caley Thistle at the weekend, after being ruled out with a broken foot only 6 weeks ago.

Conway broke a metatarsal bone in his foot in March after a training ground accident, which apparently ruled him out for the rest of the season.

However, Conway has stunned the experts, by making a quicker than expected recovery and came on as a 2nd half substitute for Jon Daly in the 1-1 draw with Caley Thistle at the weekend.

Then, against Saint Mirren, Conway replaced Morgaro Gomis in the 68th minute of the 2-0 defeat.

Conway only started light training a few weeks ago, but injuries and suspensions have meant Levein has found him a place on the bench for United`s last 2 SPL matches.

The 21-year-old player is one of the most exciting prospects in Scottish Football at the moment and manager Craig Levein is happy to have him back in his 1st team squad.

‘Craig has been coming along really well and is back running again so I hope I might be able to get him a game before the end of the season,’ admitted Levein.

‘It’s important not to rush him but if he feels comfortable in a few weeks then we’ll see how it goes.’

‘Our games are going to be competitive so I wouldn’t take any unnecessary risks but he’s made significant progress already.’
