Dundee United midfielder Peter Canero has signed a contract with MLS side NY/NJ Metrostars in a surprise move.

The 24 year old put pen to paper on a four year deal and the move will go through on January 1st.

Canero was on a short term contract with United after being freed by Leicester and played 12 games for the club, he will join up with former Rangers and Celtic striker Mo Johnston who is now coach at the Metrostars.

Dundee United manager Gordon Chisholm is disappointed to lose the player and said that due to the current budget he wasn’t in a position to offer a contract.

Chisholm knows he has to offload players in the January transfer window if he is to have any funds to get new faces in.
