Former Dundee United manager Craig Brewster has been linked with a move to Kilmarnock in January.
Brewster, who turned 40 last Wednesday, has been rumoured to be considering a short-term playing contract with Killie, though Saint Mirren, Aberdeen and Dunfermline might also be interested in taking the veteran striker.
Disaster struck during Brewster’s first game incharge at Tannadice, when he broke his foot after landing awkwardly in the closing stages of a 1-1 draw with Aberdeen in January.
Following his departure from Tannadice at the end of October, Brewster has been linked with several vacant manager`s positions, including Dunfermline, Hibernian & a difficult move to Greek side Ionikos.
However, it is as a player that he is now in such demand from sides struggling at the wrong end of the SPL table.
Killie boss Jim Jefferies told the BBC, “We phoned Craig and agreed to meet up for a chat and that’s what will happen, but it’s far too early to know what might happen.”
With Kilmarnock’s frontline hit by injuries, Jeffries wants some cover and thinks Brewster meets his requirements.
“When David was injured, it took away what we had been looking for to complement the other strikers – getting in behind,” Jefferies continued.
“David gave us another option with his ability to hold the ball and link things, but we know, having lost that, we have a slight problem again.”
“It’s far too early to know what might happen or what his (Craig’s) thoughts are. He’s an extremely fit guy and an intelligent player, so he doesn’t need to do quite so much running anyway.”
Meanwhile, Aberdeen boss Jimmy Calderwood is also hopeful of getting Brewster, he said “We have been monitoring big Craig’s situation and hope to speak to him next week.”
