The deal was officially signed by both parties at Gleneagles hotel at 4pm today, after Inverness finally accepted the compensation package offered by United chairman Eddie Thompson.

United made Brewster their top target after Gordon Chisholm was sacked earlier this week.

The Tannadice outfit parted company with Chisholm after a disastrous run of form which saw United slip to ninth spot in The SPL.

Brewster has impressed during his short time in charge at Inverness helping them into seventh spot in the table.

The 39-year-old striker had already agreed to an emotional return to Tannadice on a deal running until the summer of 2009.

A joint statement from the clubs said: ‘A compensation package has been fully agreed and Craig Brewster has joined United with immediate effect.’
