The Dundee United squad have demonstrated a new level of confidence since Craig Levien’s arrival, which has had a positive influence on the Dundee United supporters as well…

Four home victories on the trot has giving the whole club a boost, with the players now demonstrating a new desire to win and even after going behind the heads aren’t dropping!

At the weekend, Inverness Caley Thistle went 1-0 up against the run of play after a curling freekick by Barry Wilson, but instead of regressing back into their shells, the whole United team stepped things up a gear and pushed forward looking for the equaliser – eventually running out 3-1 winners.

It has been that winning mentality that has given the United supporters new hope and an optimism that this turn around isn’t just a flash in the pan.

After years of following an inconsistent and under-performing Dundee United side, you’d forgive the supporters for becoming slightly persistmitic about the clubs chances of winning week-in, week-out.

Attendances have been falling over the last few seasons, and only a brave few supporters still travel through to Ibrox & Parkhead expecting anything other than a 5-0 defeat.

Vital Football Poll

However, in a poll on Vital Football (Dundee United), an amazing 29% of supporters thought that Craig Levein’s side would continue their run at Tannadice rand notch up at least 8 home wins in-a-row.

There were a pessimistic few still out there, with 21% predicting United wouldn`t even have beaten Caley Thistle at the weekend, restricting the run to just 3 wins in-a-row, with a further 22% predicting the win over Caley Thistle, but doubting that United will overcome the next hurdle that is Hearts in a few weeks time.

Hearts have been struggling of late, and their weekend win over Motherwell was their first win in 10 matches. Their last win before that was actually a 4-0 win over Dundee United – a score line which flattered the Tynescastle side after they were out performed by United for most of the match, but managed to take their chances when they came.

The next team to visit ‘Fortress` Tannadice after Hearts is Aberdeen, another side who are playing well at home, currently on a 5 game winning streak.

7% of those who voted though that United could beat Hearts for 4-in-a-row, but wouldn`t be able to overcome visitors Aberdeen in the last game of 2006.

3% of Dundee United supporters were confident Craig Levein could beat Aberdeen, but would lose to a struggling Falkirk side and finally 29% thought that Untied would win at least their 8th home game in a row by beating bottom of the table side Dunfermline at the end of January 2007.

Craig Levein’s View

Although, Craig Levein revealed last week that he doesn`t care much for statistics and prefers just to take one game at a time.

He said “Going for four wins at home is not irrelevant to the fans but it is to me.”

“I don’t put any great store in statistics like that because I see every game and judge it as an opportunity to win for both teams.”

“The danger is in the players thinking about it but I’m doing all I can to make sure that doesn’t happen. There’s a concern that because we’ve won the three games we start thinking we’re favourites.”

“We need to keep our feet on the ground and to do that all we need to do is just look at the league table. People talk about results breeding confidence and that’s true but I’m not one for looking at individual games and thinking we need to win here or we need to win there.”

“It’s all about getting the three points and moving further up the table. That’s the only way we’re going to look at it.”

Whether Dundee United do manage to continue this impressive run or not, I’m sure the Dundee United supporters will continue to back the manager and the team all the way.
