Fans Want Scottish Football During The Summer

Imagine the scene…..it`s a cold, wet, miserable November evening and your water-soaked jacket is doing little to keep out the cold…

You`re sitting inside Tannadice, shivering as you watch Dundee United under-perform against Falkirk or Dunfermline or another one of the many lower league sides we should be beating on a regular basis.

Suddenly your mind starts to wander, daydreaming about warmer weather and you start to wonder if the match would be more entertaining if it was being played in 30 degrees on a warm, sunny Saturday afternoon in June or July.

Ok, ok, so this June`s flash floods wouldn`t have improved anything, because most matches would probably have been washed out, but this freak weather isn`t much worse than the snow, wind and rain that causes many SPL matches to be called off during December and January.

Many people claim that playing the SPL season during the warmer months would improve the standard off football, because the pitches would be better able to cope – an argument that was only boosted by the state of the Tannadice pitch towards the end of last season!

Personally, I would prefer if football was played all year round, because the summer months can really drag on when there isn`t even a World Cup or European Championships to give us our football-fix.

Although, almost half of all Dundee United supporters admitted they would prefer to watch SPL football during the summer months.

In a poll on ArabFC.net – fans were asked “When should Scottish football be played?”, with 48% of voters choosing ‘During the summer’….. assuming of course, that the Scottish weather actually improves during those months!!!

Traditionalists made up around of third of voters, with 31% in favour of keeping things as they are, playing during the freezing cold months of the year.

However, I was surprised that only 16% were in favour of football being played all year round – perhaps they feel sorry for the professional players and think they at least deserve a few weeks/months off every year to top up their tans on Miami beach or the south of France???

Final poll results:
When should Scottish football be played?
48% = During the summer
31% = During the winter
16% = All year round
05% = Not sure
