Winger Gary Mackay-Steven is thrilled to be nominated for the PFA Scotland young player of the year title.

The Tangerines boast half of the shortlisted names with team-mate Johnny Russell also helping make up the final four selected by their fellow professionals, while skipper Jon Daly is amongst the quartet currently chasing the senior award.

Mackay-Steven, 21, has enjoyed a really major impact at Tannadice since his arrival from Airdrie United last summer following an earlier spell with Liverpool.

“It’s a massive honour. I’m absolutely thrilled. When it’s your fellow professionals who are voting, it means a lot,” he told the Sporting Life. “I was just looking to establish myself in the Dundee United team over the course of the season.

“I managed to do that around November and it has gone unbelievably for me. I couldn’t have imagined it,” Mackay-Steven added. “It has been enjoyable and being with the bunch we have at United has helped me.”
