New signing Willo Flood says he put domestic happiness ahead of money to return to Dundee United.

The 26-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the Taysiders after being released by Middlesbrough at the end of last season.

That marks a third spell for him at Tannadice, where he elected to return despite a number of other clubs chasing his services.

“I had options down south and in Scotland but the main thing is being happy,” Flood told the Daily Record. “I know playing for United gives me that. I loved living here and having a lot of friends here was a massive factor.

“My missus has a lot of friends here and that’s more important than money, easily. It’s just such a nice place to bring up a family.

“This is a great football club. I know everyone here and I know I’ll be happy all the time.”
