Why Are United Victimised By Scottish Press?

Isn`t it an amazing coincidence that every time Dundee United are building up to a crucial SPL or Cup match, suddenly a big news story breaks!

Usually, the newspapers are full of rumours about Dundee United`s star player being linked with a move to Glasgow, the week before United are scheduled to play one of the Old Firm sides.

Last weekend, as if by magic, a story appears in the press which suggests that Craig Levein is set to quit Tannadice to become the new Hearts manager.

Its extremely unlikely that Craig Levein would leave his post at Dundee United, to join a club which has spiralling debts and an interfering owner, but when have the press ever let the truth get in the way of a good rumour.

Last weekend, Dundee United supporters were being blamed for ruining Allan McGregor` car – after someone used paint stripper to brand “DUFC” on the bonnet of his expensive motor.

Why would Dundee United fans do something like that? Even after the Cup Final, I don`t know many Arabs with a grudge against the Rangers goalkeeper.

Now, if it had been Carlos Cuellar`s car, or maybe even Kris Boyd`s car, then I might have believed that a rogue group of Glasgow based United supporters had been trying to get some payback.

No, it was probably Celtic supporters , but its just easier to blame Dundee United supporters, because it gives the press something else to use to unsettle Craig Levein and the 1st team squad!

The West coast media has had it in for Dundee United for years, ever since Jim McLean created a side capable of beating their beloved Rangers and Celtic.

McLean`s infamous lunge on the BBC reporter sums up exactly what most supporters of East coast clubs feel about the Scottish media.

Every weekend, idiots like Jim Traynor pollute the airwaves with their anti-Aberdeen and anti-Dundee sentiment, and his Daily Hun newspaper isn`t much better.
