Where Is Robson’s Scotland Call-Up?

Should Barry Robson be called-up to the Scotland International squad?

28-year-old Robson has been Dundee United`s most influential player for the past 18-months and after the 1-0 win over Aberdeen at the weekend, the debate has reared its head once again.

Dundee United supporters are probably biased, but last season an incredible 79% voted in favour of the former Caley Thistle and Rangers youth player being rewarded with a Scotland cap.

Captain Robson has blossomed under Craig Levein’s leadership and became the club’s top scorer with 11 goals during the 2006/07 season.

His crossing is extremely accurate, his free-kicks are deadly, and his special awareness is exceptional…..in fact, the only negative thing about Robson is his fiery temper.

The Aberdeen born midfielder received 7 yellow cards and 2 red cards in 33 games for Dundee United last season.

Ironically, Robson is so important to United – that Craig Levein actually left him out of the final 4 matches, because any further yellow cards would have resulted in a 4-game ban, which would have carried over into this campaign.

During the 1-0 win over Aberdeen at the weekend, Robson almost scored mid-way through the 2nd half, but his right-foot shot came back off the inside of Derek Soutar`s left-hand post.

At a time when Scottish football supporters are moaning about the lack of national talent, it`s a shock that a creative, passionate and clearly able player like Barry Robson is not part of the national side.

Wake up Alex McLeish and pick-up the phone, before another Scottish player gets disillusioned by the International set-up and moves down south to join an unknown lower league English team!!!
