Willo Flood is confident his new side can handle the hostile atmosphere of Polish outfit Slask Wroclaw in the Europa Cup later this week.

The Tangerines’ opponents sold out of their 8000 tickets for the Oporowska Stadium in just under two hours as the forthcoming contest really stirred up public imagination.

But the former Celtic midfielder has no worries over his latest colleagues’ ability to rise to the challenge.

“We all know it’s going to be a very tough game and we will need to do well to bring a decent result back home,” Flood told the Daily Record. “The eastern European teams are always technically good and Poles are usually big lumps too.

“They can look after themselves so I’m expecting to be facing a big, physical team that can play a bit as well,” he added. “I am sure there will be a few yellow cards flying about. We can handle ourselves, though.

“Slask have sold all their tickets and we have too, with something like 500 United fans going over to support us.”
