Skipper Willo Flood believes Dundee United are capable of handling the occasion when visiting former club Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup despite their recent problems.

The visitors are still recovering from a shock 3-0 home defeat to Greenock Morton last time out, which has them currently down in third place in the table and a huge fourteen points behind Championship leaders St Mirren.

“This game has come at a good time for us because it has been horrific lately, especially when you consider how well we played in November and December,” Flood admitted to the Dundee Courier. “Things can’t be worse for us – we need to get better for this football club.

“It’s a free shot for us up there and the pressure is all on Aberdeen. It has been a long time since they won the Scottish Cup,” he added. “It’s going to be a big challenge for us – we are the underdogs, we know that, but we have a chance to go up there and express ourselves.”
