Dundee United winger Gary Mackay-Steven is stepping up his recovery from recent knee surgery.

The 23-year-old will this week begin running again as he continues his build up for a return to action.

Mackay-Steven has already spent time doing strengthening exercises with weight training and working out on the bike.

“He is a good lad who looks after himself. He has even been doing a lot of work on his own, at night in the gym,” United coach Gary Kirk told the Dundee Courier. “That extra work has helped him I’m sure.

“He is probably still two to three weeks away from a comeback, though. You just never know what will happen when he starts running and we can’t rush him back.”
