Queen’s Park are worried over Dundee United avoiding paying a development fee if highly-rated teenager Aidan Connolly joins them.

The Spiders claim that when the Tangerines signed Barry Douglas from them three years ago they offered a four-figure development fee until using a loophole caused by the Hampden Park outfit’s amateur status.

“Other clubs are aware of the loophole but choose to pay us a development fee or make a donation to our youth set-up,” their club spokesperson told the Dundee Courier. “Dundee United offered a fee and then never paid it which was disappointing.”

Seventeen-year-old schoolboy Connolly is the son of former United striker Paddy, who previously spent a decade at Tannadice.
