Dundee United have given a trial to Francois Kompany, who is the younger brother of Manchester City skipper Vincent.

The 28-year-old featured as a trialist for the Under-20s against St Mirren in midweek and may again be involved in their forthcoming meeting with Hearts.

Kompany began his career at Mechelen in Belgium, and also includes a spell with Macclesfield Town – and is capable of operating at either centre-back or left-back.

“Francois’s a decent player with good experience and I liked what I saw of him on Tuesday and in training with us this week,” manager Ray McKinnon told the Dundee Courier. “He is lacking a bit when it comes to match fitness but he’s going to stay on next week so he can put a bit of work in and we can have a look at him in another game.”
